During Pride Week, LGBTQIA+ student association Anteros organizes a symposium about the queer history of Utrecht.
On Thursday evening 30 May, three speakers will take you back in time at the location where it all began 300 years ago: Domplein. Theo van der Meer will talk about the sodomite persecution in the 18th and 19th centuries. Maurice van Lieshout will talk about the role of students in the Utrecht gay and lesbian movement from 1965 onwards. Finally, you can listen to Marijke Huisman. She describes lesbian-feminist activism and how the Queer U-Stories initiative keeps our history alive.
For those interested, we will end the evening with drinks at Bodytalk; the place where we with Anteros can have a visible weekly presence!
The symposium is free of charge. Everyone is welcome to attend. The symposium will take place in the Senate Hall of the Academy Building from 7-22 pm. The capacity of the hall is limited, therefore please register in advance.
