Yesterday we presented our book Utrechtaren, a queer history. It is now available in bookstores and can be ordered online from the publisher, WBOOKS.
Maurice van Lieshout, Marijke Huisman and Evert van der Veen compiled the book. They show how people who did not adhere to the dominant sex and gender norms won their place in Utrecht society. Read the stories of lime-bearer Gilles van Baaden, lesbian icon Sylvia Bodnár and transgender artist Dirkje Kuik. The authors connect these personal stories to the development of the Dutch queer emancipation movement.
