A series of musical performances of the Utrecht Passion starts today. The Utrecht Passion is none other than Bach's Johannes Passion with a new libretto. Instead of the Passion of Christ, the story focuses on the suffering of LGBTQIA+ people, past and present, discriminated against and murdered. This project does not seek to provoke or weaken the Biblical passion story; it revolves around the serious issue about our attitude to the suffering of people who were or are persecuted because of their sexuality or gender diversity. The Utrecht sodomy trials are part of it.

The libretto was written by Thomas Höft. ArtHouse17 performs the Passion under the direction of Michael Hell in the main hall of Tivoli-Vredenburg.
